The global movement of Shelter City establishes local Shelter Cities all over the world. A Shelter City is a local network of organizations and citizens who shape a safe and inspiring space for human rights defenders who come to visit. Here we provide them resources, trainings and companionship. Each local Shelter City offers a variety of expertise. That enables us to tailor our support to the specific needs of each human rights defender.
Right now, there are 22 Shelter Cities in the Netherlands, Georgia, Tanzania, Benin, Costa Rica, Nepal, the United Kingdom, and France.
Can your city provide a safe and inspiring space for human rights defenders at risk? Would you like to find out how you can set up a Shelter City in your city?
Justice & Peace Netherlands has created a manual to share their experience with organizations, national or local governments, universities or any other parties interested in setting up a Shelter City.
