The Shelter City outdoor exhibition returns to Zwolle
As Shelter City Zwolle celebrates its 5-year anniversary, the Shelter City outdoor exhibition returns for one month to the city where it first opened in May 2021.
The exhibition
The Shelter City outdoor exhibition features six portraits and stories of human rights defenders and previous Shelter City guests, ranging from a Nigerian LGBTIQ+ rights defender to a Mexican human rights defender working on enforced disappearences.
The creation of an exhibition was initiated by the students of Windesheim Honours College in Zwolle and the team of Shelter City Zwolle. With the collaboration of Justice & Peace, the exhibition of six photos by Dutch photographer Daniella van Bergen, opened in Zwolle in May 2021.
After Zwolle, the exhibition travelled across Shelter Cities in the Netherlands, with its latest stop in The Hague to celebrate 10 years of Shelter City The Hague.
Shelter City Zwolle
Shelter City Zwolle was created in 2017 and has offered a safe space to human rights defenders ever since. What makes Shelter City Zwolle unique is that it is largely organized and run by students of Windesheim Honours College.
