Shelter City York: Guidelines for Universities Hosting Human Rights Defenders
The University of York’s Centre for Applied Human Rights (CAHR) has launched the Guidelines for Universities Hosting Human Rights Defenders.

The Guidelines provide a clear framework for universities involved in temporary relocation or seeking to host human rights defenders. It is an invitation to universities to get involved in temporary relocation, including practical ways to support human rights defenders.
It was developed with human rights defenders and universities globally currently offering temporary relocation to human rights defenders, as well as organizations in the temporary relocation network.
The Guidelines are designed to share good practice among universities already involved in protection of human rights defenders and to support other universities seeking to become more active.
As coordinator of Shelter City York and UNESCO Chair in the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and Expansion of Political Space, the launch of these Guidelines further enhance CAHR’s commitment to supporting human rights defenders at risk, ensuring a collaborative and coordinated approach to their protection.
