Luis, awarded The Albie for his journalism
On 26 September, Luis Carlos Díaz, journalist and human rights defender from Venezuela was awarded The Albie: Justice for Journalists Award for his courageous journalism, bravery in publicly denouncing abuses of power, and his unrelentless support for other human rights defenders.
Named after anti-apartheid advocate, Justice Albie Sachs, the Albies were created by George and Amal Clooney to shine a protective spotlight on brave individuals and groups from around the globe who, at great personal risk, have devoted their lives to advocating for justice.
Luis was a Shelter City guest in The Hague in 2023.
