Global Citizen explores Shelter City
Shelter City was recently featured in a Global Citizen article that explored the concept of safe havens for human rights defenders.
The article written by Jaxx Artz, was published on April 12, 2023, and explores the needs of human rights defenders and the role that safe havens such as Shelter City can play in providing vital support.
The article features interviews with several individuals in the field, including Jodesz Gavilan, former Shelter City Nijmegen guest and a journalist and human rights defender from the Philippines. Having had first-hand experience in Shelter City last October, Jodesz discusses how participating in the programme impacted her work.
Aisha North, former Communications Officer of Shelter City, also provides her perspective on the initiative, and the skills and wellbeing benefits it provides to human rights defenders throughout the programme.
