Human Library: Sharing International Stories

On the 13th of May, Shelter City The Hague, in collaboration with Voorlichting COC Haaglanden and COC Haaglanden, hosted the second edition of Human Library: Sharing International Stories.

The storytelling evening featured two Shelter City guests and two Ugandan refugees from Stichting Rainbow Den Haag. They shared deeply moving stories of resilience in the face of dangerous and oppressive environments. The evening was a heartfelt reminder of the strength displayed by LGBTIQ+ individuals worldwide defending their rights. It also highlighted the crucial importance of providing more spaces where such voices can be heard, celebrated, and amplified.

This evening was a reminder of how similar we are as a community even in very different circumstances.

International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia

In addition to this inspiring event, on the 17th of May, we also took a moment to commemorate International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia. In recent years, we have seen a rise in anti-LGBTIQ+ rhetoric, oppressive laws, and violence, signalling a worrying trend of regression in the protection and acceptance of LGBTIQ+ rights. Shelter City continues to stand side by side with LGBTIQ+ rights defenders around the world, providing safe and resourceful spaces and contributing to just and peaceful societies.

We thank everyone who has continued to support our work and joined us in these important moments of reflection and action.
