Introducing LGBTIQ+ rights defender Alassane, winner of a NOW-US Award
Alassane is a human rights defender who fights for the rights of the LGBTIQ+ community in Mali and a former guest of Shelter City. Here we want to present briefly her important work, thanks to which she won a NOW-US Award.
In Mali, LGBTIQ+ persons face legal and social challenges including stigmatization, security concerns and lack of attention from the institutions. However, there are human rights defenders such as Alassane that work hard to make Mali a safe country for everyone regardless of their sexual orientation, gender identity and serological status.
Alassane is the National Coordinator of the Coalition Anti SIDA, Ca nous Concerne Tous. This initiative fights for the promotion and defence of the LGBTIQ+ community and against AIDS by providing knowledge and skills.
Alassaine’s organization aims at raising awareness through trainings on human rights, security and leadership. It also assists LGBTIQ+ people who have been isolated and fighting against AIDS.
